Washington – Adfero, a full-service communications agency based in Washington, DC, is saddened to announce the passing of former Chief Executive Officer and Founder, Jeff Mascott. Jeff passed away on February 28, 2023, at his home in Maryland surrounded by his family and friends.

“It is with a very heavy heart that I share the news of Jeff’s passing,” said Darren Scher, Adfero Chief Executive Officer. “Jeff was a valued friend, colleague and mentor to many, including myself. He was a trusted, conscientious leader who was respected and admired in the public affairs space. I know I speak for many when I say that Jeff will be missed very much.”

Jeff founded Adfero in 2004 with the core purpose of creating opportunities for people to do what they do best. Under his leadership, Adfero has become one of the best-known communications agencies in Washington, consistently recognized for staying ahead of industry trends. Jeff’s clear vision and penchant for change paired with his unique mix of political experience, business savvy and communications and technology expertise resulted in agency success, growth and the creation of new opportunities for public affairs professionals.

With Jeff at the helm, Adfero was recognized by PR News as a “Top Place to Work in PR,” PR Week chose it as a finalist for “Boutique PR Firm of the Year” and SmartCEO named Adfero a Future50 company for emergent growth. In addition to building and growing Adfero, Jeff supported the broader public affairs community, serving on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee for the Public Affairs Council.

Prior to launching Adfero, Jeff also co-founded Fireside, now part of FiscalNote, a leading provider of CRM and web services to the U.S. Congress. Earlier in his career, he led digital strategy for Congressman J.C. Watts, Jr., Chairman of the House Republican Congress. An avid Terps fan, Jeff graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park with a BA in Government and Politics.

Jeff is survived by his wife Jenn and children, Avery, Everett, Elias and Augustine.

The Mascott family will host a public memorial service to celebrate Jeff’s life and hope at 12:30 p.m. on March 10 at Fourth Presbyterian Church in Bethesda, MD. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be directed to:
