Public Trust, Communications and the Advancement in AI

By Teressa Wykpisz-Lee, Senior Vice President, Public Affairs Practice Lead

We see it everywhere — AI has revolutionized communications. And the government is catching up, pushing for policy at the federal level and releasing the latest executive order on artificial intelligence (AI), America’s AI Action Plan. AI is the future of how people glean information from dinner recipes to background information to almost any type of content creation. As always, Adfero is going beyond the policy to ask what does trust in AI look like? And, as communicators, how do companies maintain trust with consumers when promoting the value of a brand in this AI-optimized world we live in?

Recently, Adfero welcomed Billy Mitchell, senior vice president and executive editor of Scoop News Group, who broke down how AI is accelerating change across the federal landscape.

His top three takeaways under the AI Action Plan are:

  1. The removal of regulations that prohibit AI innovation accelerates technological growth. This provides an easier path for startups to scale and creates momentum for broader access to datasets.
  2. Investments and incentives in the development of AI infrastructure strengthen the foundation for long-term economic growth. In the Big Beautiful Bill, we saw federal R&D and AI security tax incentives, which create an additional push for AI acceleration in critical industries.
  3. Prioritization of America as a world leader in AI strengthens innovation and global competitiveness. By making AI a national priority, the United States unleashes private-sector-led innovation and supports open-source models that set global AI standards.

The policy expedites growth in AI. This means, as we help clients solve the complexity of staying in the search with the veracious day-to-day use of AI, we need to think innovatively. As recently noted by Steve Roney, Adfero’s vice president of Digital Strategy, Adfero offers  Generative Engine Optimization strategies that create a path to engage via AI while staying relevant in the conversation with curated content that allows for trust.

The concert of strategic search functionality, AI-generated content, personalized recommendations, and automated messaging can excel engagement but must be handled with care to not alienate or cause skepticism. And trust is earned by transparency, integrity and a ruthless commitment to accuracy.

The Adfero POV

To build lasting trust and influence, communicators must adopt a multi-pronged strategy—not just adopting the technology but by maintaining strategy and authenticity in shaping the public narrative.
